Well it only took 5 weeks, but I finally decided to sit down and update the blog. 5 weeks into the 2009 football campaign and I get to write about something that I truly love, football. Gibbs is off to it’s best start in over 40 years. As a former Eagle, it excites me to see the current Eagles play as they have. Now don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed watching all our Eagles, but it has been very, very exciting to see the success the team is having this season. But this season has seen success that we haven’t experienced in a very long time. 1997 would be the last season that created this type of buzz and then you’d have to go back to the late 80’s, early 90’s for next closest time that Gibbs created this type of stir. It also is exciting for me because I had the opportunity to coach the players that make up the junior class. Andy Hibbett, Paul Riffey, Josh Boling, Chris Legg, Brad Bales are just a few are the same guys that I had the priviledge of coaching with Eddie Jones, Greg Bales, Johnny Hibbett, and John Smith. I like to think that some of what we tried to teach them has stayed with them and made a difference in their success.
As someone who has a bit of access to the football program, I love seeing the behind the scenes stuff that make a program tick and at the same time I love being able to see it as a fan of the program. Sometimes I wish people truly could see the time and effort that the players, coaches, booster memebers, cheerleaders, band, and support personnel invest to make Friday nights special. I thank all you for making this experience awesome for all of us.
Well, I will do my best to keep this updated. I hope to have some history tidbits for everyone along with some new stuff to keep you connected with Gibbs sports.
