On Wednesday night I had the opportunity to attend the 2009 Lady Eagle basketball banquet. As most of you know, I have the opportunity to be close to Gibbs athletics and have attended several post season banquets. I enjoy going. I get to have a great meal, fellowship with friends, and take some great pictures. What else could a person ask for.

Most banquets are pretty much the same. A meal, the coaches talk, awards are given, and everyone has a good time. But the thing that is most interesting to me is the senior classes. Every year seniors come and go and as a person that has been around Gibbs athletics for a number of years, you see kids come and go. But the dynamics of each class is always different. Sometimes you have great athletes on great teams, average athletes on average teams and everything in between. But you almost always have a group of seniors. Kids that are on the cusp of adulthood but still allowed to be kids. Coaches, parents, and fans ask them to grow up and most do, playing like champions on the courts and fields.

It is an exciting time for them because a major event is on the horizon, graduation. Wednesday night, Gibbs basketball said goodbye to 5 seniors who have seen the girls basketball program go from nothing to somthing. Morgan, Brooke, Brittany, Jaimie, & Blakely have left their mark on the athletic program at Gibbs. They have been a part of the foundation to restoring Lady Eagle Basketball. From Kay Clapp to Sarah Benzinger, to this current group, Gibbs has been fortunate to have a great many outstanding basketball players.

In closing, thanks to all the ladies for being great student-athletes while at Gibbs. And as time passes, look back and remember what you have done and take your experiences and pass them down to future Gibbs athletes. You will be an Eagle forever.
