How will later start affect Gibbs Sports?

As most of you know, the Knox County School Superintendent has proposed a later start date for several schools in the system as a cost saving measure. With Gibbs being one of those schools, there have been several questions about how the late start would affect Gibbs athletics. As one who has participated and now follows the Gibbs athletic teams, I’m aware of what each coach and team must do in regards to practice and game day operations. With that in mind, I personally feel that the later start time would put Gibbs student-athletes and teams at a distinct disadvantage.

Most teams use the 4-6pm hours as practice time. With the time change, teams wouldn’t finish until 7 at the earliest. In terms of games, each sport faces issues in regards to travel, gametimes, possible missed school, to name a couple of points. What are your thoughts? Let us know. Let the superintendent know. Below is his email and phone along with Bill Phillips, our school board rep.
